This test is to check breeding animals for inherited eye diseases. We are able to provide dog breeders with eye certification with internationally recognised eye certificates.
Many eye diseases are inherited, and responsible dog breeders have their breeding dogs checked each year whilst breeding and then a final check after the age of eight years. Such eye examinations can be used to identify inherited eye problems before they are further bred into the dog population.
Animal Eye Care is also able to provide specific eye information about any breed. This information is gained from our own records, and from discussion with our colleagues from around the world. We can now take DNA swabs to test for some hereditary eye diseases in selected breeds. Please note that only some types of PRA can be test for genetically, and annual ACES examinations are still highly recommended.
